William James Addresses the World Peace Congress. Pt. 1
James's speech, given in Boston on the closing day of the World Peace Congress, 7 October 1904 and published in The Atlantic Monthly in December 1904, vol. 94, pp. 845-47 [ http://www.des.emory.edu/mfp/jamesPeace1904.html ]

What I was going to lead with originally was James's 1904 essay, "Does 'Consciousness' Exist?" which appeared in Journal of Philosophy, Psychology and Scientific Methods, 1, 477-491 [ http://psychclassics.yorku.ca/James/consciousness.htm ]
which I may get to later. William James ended up being a big part of my recent trip. His writings that is, for a variety of reasons, some of which may be readily apparent to friends and associates. Or not.

GS: No, no no, Science of Mind is quite different. It's you know, it comes out of Emerson and the Transcendentalists and ... Ernest Holmes is the founder..." [In my zeal to explain I manage to throw in references to metaphysics, the New Thought Movement, and William James' "Varieties of Religious Experience."]
T: Oh.
GS: I mean, you see you start from the position that there's One Mind, One Consciousness --
T: William James wouldn't start there.
GS: Huh?
