Marius Petipa writes, "All my work is reduced to ashes."
Le Maitre Petipa, near the end of his life and in despair that there was no one to carry on the great ballet tradition he had created, writing in his Diary on January 22, 1904, the day George Balanchine was born.
Xiomara Reyes as Giselle.
[Note: Giselle could end up being significant, especially Act Two. Talk to Lionel]
It's always darkest just before the dawn, as my mother used to say, usually when life was looking especially grim and hopeless. She had a way of saying it that managed to convey the sense of there having been debate on the matter, and that she'd once again been able to prevail upon the authorities not to make an exception in my case. This time. Speaking of mothers, then, imagine my reaction to this comment on yesterday's post:
"Nice post about MY MOM. You'll never guess who Daddy and I ran into here in ST. TROPEZ. Duh, considering all the CLUES you gave. DIDIER is cute too, way more cuter IN PERSON. If you ever want to talk to him again, you better open an IM account like NOW. [Signed] DAMIAN's twin sister PAMELA LANDRY CIA"
First of all, does anyone else see the irony in this IM business? "I Am that I AM"? Okay, maybe it's just me. But in my defense -- those of you who are crying "For the LOVE OF GOD, DON'T!" and "Shameless!" right about now -- let me say one thing: Just because I'm one of those people who's had to sleep his way to the middle doesn't mean I don't believe in True Love. I do. I know it's out there waiting for me. I believe! Je viens, mon cher!
In the meantime, and for reasons I hope will be clear some day when all this unpleasantness is behind us and despite the deletions I was forced to make, based on certain negotiations recently concluded, all I can share of that Instant Message conversation I had as soon as I created an account is as follows:
ME: This is blackmail, isn't it.
[deleted]
ME: This is blackmail, isn't it, PAMELA.
[deleted]
ME: What do you want?
[deleted]
ME: Are you INSANE? Just because I live in LA does NOT mean I know EVERYONE, I can't just -- [deleted]
[deleted]
ME: I'll work on it.
[deleted]
ME: Hello, that was your MOTHER's idea, for crying out loud I was only her teacher, not [deleted]
[deleted]
So there you are. My only hope now is that I somehow find the strength to keep dancing til Dawn. But whatever happens, I implore you, I beseech you, Gentle Reader, be kind. Don't believe everything you read. And if you must, read between the lines.
