Thomas Crapper Retires
passing the reins of the firm to his nephew George.
Crapper's Valveless Waste Preventer Patent #874.
Crapper's Valveless Waste Preventer Patent #874.Crapper did not invent the flush toilet, but he certainly contributed to its popularity. Contrary to popular belief, he was never knighted, although the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, had Thomas Crapper & Co. supply thirty toilets for his renovations at Sandringham House.
The term "take a crap" was in usage before his name became synonymous with flush toilets; it was never a phrase, however, considered acceptable in polite Victorian society.
Meanwhile, you might be interested to know that according to UNICEF, 2.6 billion people or roughly 42 percent of the world's population, have no access to toilets of any kind, which I feel puts the matter of Senator Larry Craig's behavior in a public restroom in a somewhat different light. Rather than drawing attention to the sexual fetish of a self-loathing man like the senator, shouldn't we be thinking about the low priorities sanitation and water receive internationally? Or better yet, maybe the media could examine the implications of the Attorney General's resignation which received such short shrift in favor of the more salacious Craig's pending "retirement."
Just a thought.
