Yes I know it was days ago. I entertained. I got flowers.

Valentine Cameron Princep [1838-1904] was an artist of the Pre-Raphaelite School, but also next door neighbor of Frederic Leighton in Holland Park so you can imagine there were other influences. Princep painted The Delhi Durbar (exhibited 1880 Royal Academy): Victoria as Empress of India.

What a relief to have the roses be the colour (Spelling a nod to Empire… ) of old ivory & not that ubiquitous blood red or worse yet, pink.
