Rainy, Chilly

Three days of rain, including the good parts of Saturday.  Cold enough to turn on the heat too, if you don't think turning on the heat's a luxury.  Otherwise you wear a hoodie inside.  And long underwear.

The problem is that most of the time you can pretty much ignore the weather here.  You rarely think of it as a force to contend with.  You can even get used to feeling more or less invincible, weather-wise.  You don't consider weather as something that could kill you

Yes of course there's Nature in the form of the occasional earthquake, or fire, or mudslide, but generally speaking, the idea that Life is hard and full of struggle because of what's going on outside with the weather?  That you might need clothing that is more than decorative?  No, not really.

There are many places in the world that have interesting and attractive weather.  Paris in the rain.  London in the fog.   L.A. however does not look good wet.

You think about this on Saturday in a torrential downpour as you go to Traffic School, you and the 19 other people who were photographed by camera lights at $500 a pop.  And one kid caught doing 110 in a 65 because he was being chased but not by the police, or not at first, except his pursuer got away (spurned lover or short-changed drug dealer is my guess but he does not elaborate) and some old dazed guy who was stopped for driving on the wrong side of the road and should probably not be driving at all.  But there you are, all of you, common criminals for the day.  It is rainy and cold and expensive paying your debt to society and knocking points off your record so your insurance doesn't go up.  You wonder what a family of four does when Soccer Mom makes a right on red and gets her picture taken and has to cough up that kind of cash.  What, do the kids go without shoes and lunch money for a year?  I don't know.

What you must do, of course, is be thankful that you are not a working mother with young children to feed and clothe in a town with photo lights, and this leads you to count all your blessings while you summarize for your devoted readers, particularly Bianca who was out of town and missed the rain:

1.  Be glad you don't have to worry about your yacht.

2.  Be grateful for all the beauty in the world.

i know it didn't sound like you liked the rain...still, it was a wonderful visual. at least in my mind. also, i was not in traffic school. that alone could put a damper on anything.

i was sliding around in it in las vegas. the difference is this...all the wonderful lights reflecting in the rain. god...stunning. it was a winter wonderland...the snow at 'red rock' the slightly overdone decorations in the atrium at the bellagio. i think they ticket you for not coming to a complete stop, i may be wrong.
